Dr Zhirayr Avetisyan earned his PhD at Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in Sciences (Leipzig, Germany) for his studies in mathematical physics (Quantum Field Theory in Curved Spacetimes). He worked at mathematics departments of top universities - University College London (UK), UC Santa Barbara (USA), Ghent University (Belgium), as a researcher, lecturer and supervisor. He continues to supervise research efforts of international young mathematicians in the subjects of Analysis, PDEs and more recently, mathematical foundations of quantum machine learning. His broad knowledge and interest in mathematics and its applications allows him to approach problems in holistic ways, as a generalist. As a high school student, Zhirayr has won medals in International Olympiads in Physics and Astronomy, and later led olympiad classes in the same subjects. He also has experience in algorithmic and data-driven software development, including signal processing and machine learning. Zhirayr enjoys putting his well-rounded technical skills into the solution of complex problems.
